Féile na nGael, the national festival of Hurling, Camogie and Handball for boys and girls under 14 years of age, returns to Laois and Offaly after it was first jointly hosted by the counties, two decades ago in 1988/’89.

The 38th Féile na nGael takes place over the weekend of Friday, June 20th to Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 with the streets of Portlaoise and O’Moore Park being the centre for the Féile parade and the hurling & camogie finals, respectively. In 2009, Birr will play host to the parade and finals.

Féile na nGael is sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottlers (Ire) Ltd. and they have been sponsors since the festival’s inception in 1971.

25,000 boys and girls from all 32 counties, London and Warwickshire will participate in this year’s Féile na nGael and the visiting teams will be hosted by local families and engage the host club in hurling, camogie and handball games.

Féile na nGael places great emphasis and importance on proper participation, presentation, punctuality and sportsmanship. It involves the whole community - clubs, schools, social and cultural groups, Gardaí, bands, civic and religious authorities and families. It helps to bond communities, forge friendships, provide educational opportunities and unearth new leaders.

This year’s Laois/Offaly Féile na nGael Executive Committee is chaired by Tom Jones, with Paddy Scales as Vice Chairperson and the Secretary is Pat Leogue.
